A most talkative sky is ahead of us: the Leonids meteor shower 16-17 November, a total Solar Eclipse in the wee hours here 14 November (not visible here, but we’ll likely feel it if we pay attention), and a Penumbral Eclipse of the Moon on 28 November around 9:46 am (in which the northern parts of the Moon will perceptibly dim as the moon passes through the Earth’s penumbral shadow). For me, this dance of fire and shadow in the cosmos works on my imagination—archetypes resonating in the soul. I feel the Earth move under my feet:

When we dance the shadows

Black woman’s face turns white

White woman’s face turns black

Eyes keen to see, burn dark holes

And those not seeing, well and stare

A hand reaches out to mirror

Lush resonance, searing touch

As ardent as hide and seek

(Having passed through the soul’s peek ’a boo)

The sultry blue planet nibbles her ears

When we dance the shadows

We are a chorus of cats

Grandmothers of patterns and chance
